New Beginnings I’ve got a studio space! After many months (years) of visualization and pondering and questioning, it seemed to happen without much effort. I was researching art studios one weekend and on a whim, I remembered that someone had suggested I try an online forum. I found something that looked interesting, made an inquiry, got a response right away and went to check it out! Once I arrived, the warm and colorful vibe seemed to fit me perfectly and I decided to go for it. Entrance Shared space The studio is a shared space where classes are given by artist Pilar Montaño. There are several studios of other artists and businesses in the building, along with Pilar’s studio in front, and mine is a shared space with a lovely former Biologist, Howie Reese about halfway down the hall. Howie paints in oil and likes to do large cubist inspired works. My wall in Progress I’ve only just moved in and am inspired to begin working on some larger canvases and create new work for my wall. The challenge will be the bright yellow background. We will have to see how this goes! For now I’m extremely excited and humbled that this has happened as if in an answer to an unspoken prayer…I mean, I asked for it, but I didn’t expect it! I wanted a studio space, but didn’t picture this, but maybe this, and the community working here will lead me to where I am going next. I honestly have no plan…!
Upcoming Exhibition I’ve just been notified that one of my artworks was accepted into a juried exhibition that will be coming up later this month at Art on 30th’s Ashton Gallery in San Diego. The opening reception will be from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on August 20th, 2022, and the exhibition will run through September 16th. Hope to see some of you there!
Artwork of the Week I thought it might be interesting to share with you and feature a different artwork of mine each week, taking into account the limited amount of time we all have, and therefore keeping it short and sweet. This week’s work is one that hangs in my hallway. It’s now one of my favorites because of its unique color combinations and loosely designed patterns. I created it after watching another artist on YouTube and wanted to give it a try. It is a 12×12” wood panel from Cheap Joe’s art supply and it was painted using whatever acrylics and other mark-making tools I had on hand. I call it “Musical Messages 2” as it is part of a small series. In future posts I’ll be sharing more about my process, including the supplies and techniques I use. For now, though, I’m off to enjoy my Sunday! Hope you’re doing the same!
